About

Sun. June 12, 2011

With a passion for hilarity, Sari has been a staple on the LA Comedy scene since 2001. And by staple, we mean relegated to the corner of the stack– but awfully shiny. Her early studies were in improv and sketch comedy at Improv Olympic and Second City, respectively. But when acting and improv seemed like not enough work, she decided to try her luck at standup. Sari quickly went on to make a name for herself both as a comic and comedy producer—performing around the country and sharing the stage with many of her heroes such as Chris Rock, Patton Oswalt, and David Cross.

As a writer, Sari had a short stint doing punch up for Steve Harvey’s Big Time. She was also hired to write jokes for Popeye’s Chicken commercials, and her jokes have appeared in books: “She’s So Funny” and “Squeaky Clean Comedy.” Sari has written spec scripts for film, tv, and web. Her latest feature film script, Lab Rats, placed as a quarterfinalist in CineStory. Sari has also written and directed a number of shorts which have played at film festivals across the US and Canada. Her directorial debut “Without A Hitch” was also selected as a finalist at Moondance. While most of her efforts are spent behind the scenes, Sari can occasionally be spotted on-screen or around town doing standup and improv.

Sari rhymes with Very, Hairy, and Scary. Sari enjoys rhyming.

About the author

Welcome to the blog of Los Angeles-based filmmaker, writer, comedian Sari Karplus. Several years late on every trend, Sari (pronounced like Mary) has fancily joined the blogosphere. Hopefully soon she'll go on to discover other new fads like how to speak in first person. Until then, please enjoy the ride.
