Average is the new ultimate!

Thu. April 30, 2009

My friend in marketing said this to me today about business: “In this economy, lateral is the new up.”

I love this concept. It is an awesome way to measure everything. If you are like me, you wonder, “I’m fairly talented, and yet I continue to live in obscurity.” And I say to you… celebrate it! Mediocrity is the new success. You can quote me on that. Why do we have to professionally or personally grow on an ongoing basis. Isn’t contraction perfectly healthy? And when times are tough, remaining status quo deserves some kind of applause.

Maybe I’ve been reading too many zen-y blogs or am taking too much to heart my dad some random person I’ve never met’s advice of “All you need to worry about is breathing.” Which I think would make a great response to any criticism. “Oh, did you not care for that movie I made? Yeah, I totally forgot I was making that thing… was super busy focusing on my breathing… ”

After completing one of my scripts, thought it time to head back to LA for a bit. In the meantime, steer clear of flying pigs and other venues for catching swine flu.

Taking religion a little further

Sun. April 5, 2009

Spending time in Colorado, it’s much easier to become aware of religion– unlike the delightfully heatheny lifestyle I’d grown to enjoy in Los Angeles. Where I’m staying in the 80117, there are only 2 bookstores less than an hour away — both Christian. For more sacrilicously secular reading, travel time is an hour plus. Most disappointing, though, is for all the religious activity, I have yet to see anyone living the words of the bible… literally. Below is a video of a talk this guy did about his year doing just that. He grew a beard, wore cotton, and stoned adulterers…in New York. Awesome.
